DRIFTWOOD A graphic novel by Jason Cobley and Andrew Wildman. It is not only human beings who are conscious. Sometimes, every once in a while, a house awakes from its quiet dream... In this frenetic world, in our hectic lives, we barely pause to consider our own ‘house’, see the emotional wear and tear. We paper over the cracks, patch unhealed wounds and sweep the past under the carpet. Our house appears to be in order, but in truth it can be slowly falling apart. There is no dream universe, no shared landscape of the unconscious. Characters that appear in our dreams are simply aspects of us. Or are they? Imagine an agent of change, able to help us take down the walls of the house and reveal the cracks, all our defenses stripped away in one fell swoop. Could we look at ourselves naked and unprotected, see the scars and tracks of our whole life? Imagine if that agent could come from the very walls in which we enclose ourselves every night. What if a home did not merely reflect a personality, but shape it? • Driftwood is a fantasy adventure with a surreal vein of philosophy running through it. Combining grief, mid-life crises and suppressed longing with mediaeval swordplay, a madcap road movie, a lost dog and a land of eternal dusk, Driftwood follows the lives of characters that learn to see the magic in the mundane through the eyes of the mysterious H. |
