"Very young children learn 80% of what is read through repetition and 20% new information within that. They are very happy to hear the same stories over again and focussing on repeated words within the story.

Owning my own nursery for 20 years with experience of under 5’s and with 8 years working with under 3’s; I began to see that many stores written for this age group seemed very ‘wordy’ with pictures and illustrations that can appear complicated.

The children and I spend time talking and making up songs about everyday things they know. This includes my Dog and my Cat that come to the nursery on regular visits. The children know them as ‘Little Dog’ (Plum) and Big Cat (Melvin) and they love to hear of their adventures."
