Growing up is hard to do. Some of us never really manage it, and young people find it tougher than ever. Peer pressure, parents’ expectations, the push and pull of society and culture that define what we think of as our identity – all of this makes gaining a sense of self all the more difficult. MetaLight follows Maz, a young girl on a journey to discovering a sense of her self, who she is and who she can become. She is guided to this realisation by a mysterious woman called Madame Alchemist who appears to her at different stages on her journey.

MetaLight is a graphic novel for children at the cusp of their teenage years, on the threshold of a journey fraught with potential trauma. At once both a sci-fi story and a guide for navigating the turbulent waters of adolescence, MetaLight combines pictorial storytelling with the richness and human truths found in our own inner ‘being’.
