Painted Pups Bandit is a mischievous African Wild Painted Dog pup, whose nature draws him into all sorts of adventures as he explores his place within his pack and the world around him. In many ways his life is a recognisable one for young children; Wild Painted Dogs live in caring, supportive extended family packs; known not only for their distinctive fur markings, but for their shared young-rearing and care for the sick and elderly. Bandit’s parents and carers seek to protect him from danger and harm and the pack is full of strong role models as well as the usual rough and tumble of sibling rivalry. However, Wild Painted Dogs are rare and, as Bandit finds out, life as an endangered animal is never boring. Their numbers are declining. Everyday in the African bush they face threats from hyenas and lions competing for the same food and, unseen, at the edges of their world, humans encroach, too, with roads, cars and snares. To grow and survive the pack must overcome these hazards daily. In Bandit young readers can recognise a fellow spirit as he deals with familiar family and social issues. His adventures, as he explores his environment, it’s wildlife and it’s dangers, also introduce them to simple conservation issues surrounding not just the Painted Dogs but all African wildlife. Bandit’s adventures are a series of humorous and engaging picture books, aimed at 3-7 year olds. A proportion of all profits from Painted Pups will be donated to relevant charities including The Painted Dog Conservation Project For more information about Bandit and his friends visit the Painted Pups website here |
